Education

Dr. Hovanesian received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), where he majored in Psychology. He completed his psychology doctoral program in clinical psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant International University in Los Angeles, CA. At CSPP, he received extensive education and experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).


Experience

Dr. Hovanesian has completed numerous clinical rotations in maximum security hospital units, detoxification units, residential programs, partial hospitalization programs (PHP), and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) with an emphasis on the stabilization and treatment of substance abuse and severe mental illness. Additionally, he completed an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited internship at Larned State Hospital where he evaluated and treated patients under civil and criminal commitment. Common forensic evaluations included competency to stand trial, pre-sentence, and risk assessments for societal threats.


Current Positions

In addition to private practice, Dr. Hovanesian currently holds a staff psychologist position with UCLA Health, Operation Mend. At Operation Mend, Dr. Hovanesian provides evidence-based and gold standard treatments and evaluation for service members/veterans and their caregivers. Areas of specialty care include Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, Substance Use Disorders, Depression, and Anxiety.
